Business owner concerned over possible dog rule

A dog walker fears plans to introduce new rules on walking dogs could damage her business.
A survey has been launched by South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) to ask people for their views about limiting the number of dogs that can be walked at one time.
The RSPCA advises that four dogs should be the limit and Sara Barnes, 48, from Grantham, said if that number is enforced, she would lose a third of her income per session.
SKDC said no rule had been put in place yet and it encouraged dog walkers to complete the survey.
Ms Barnes has been the owner of her business for six years and said if the council did follow the RSPCA's guidance it could be left in "dire straits".
Although worried about the number potentially harming her income, she is also concerned about how any new rule would be implemented.
“You could get false reporting and that could cause problems,” she said.
“How do you enforce it? Will there be dog wardens?"
The survey has invited dog owners, welfare organisations and businesses to share their opinions.
If feedback supports the proposal, a public space protection order lasting up to three years would be considered after additional consultation.
Councillor Rhea Rayside, cabinet member for people and communities, said the survey will “determine if there’s any concern by the public about how many dogs any one individual can walk with”.
She added: “I understand people’s concerns, but at the moment we’re determining concern from the public."
