Weather warning issued across East of England

Heavy showers are possible in places from Wednesday into Thursday

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning, external for heavy rain across the East of England on Wednesday.

Forecasters said there was a risk of "sudden" flooding.

The warning covers the whole region - from the Suffolk coast to west Northamptonshire - between 21:00 BST on Wednesday and 09:00 on Thursday.

The Met Office added that driving conditions could become difficult and there was a "slight chance" of power cuts.

A spokesperson said: "Whilst there is some uncertainty, and not all areas will be affected, scattered heavy showers on Wednesday evening may merge into longer spells of heavy, showery rain in places through Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The spokesperson added that between 20mm (0.8in)and 40mm (1.6in) of rain could fall in less than two hours, with a few places seeing up to 50mm in two hours.

The Met Office advised that property owners should check whether flooding in their area was likely, external and should prepare an emergency flood kit.

Motorists were advised to check road conditions and amend travel plans if necessary.
