Multiple crews tackle property fire in Cornwall

Firefighters were called out to a property blaze in south-east Cornwall after the fire service received multiple 999 calls.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews and equipment from Launceston, Liskeard, Looe, Lostwithiel, Liskeard, Polruan and St Austell were sent to an empty property on the A387 near Polperro after the blaze was first reported at about 19:00 BST on Monday.

A spokesperson said crews extinguished the fire just after 00:40 on Tuesday and an investigation was taking place.

Devon and Cornwall Police attended and carried out temporary road closures, with South Western Ambulance Service and National Grid also at the scene.

Nearby resident Trevor Leach said there were "explosions on the roof where the solar panels were going up and really bright flashes".

He said: "It just kept on and on before the fire brigade turned up. It was past midnight before they got it put out completely.

"There was lots of smoke and lots of flames."

A spokesperson for National Grid said nearby power had been cut off for "safety reasons".

A police spokesperson said the road was reopened at 00:35 on Tuesday.
