A former North Yorkshire councillor has appeared in court charged in connection with allegedly antisemitic posts on social media.

Pat Marsh, 77, is charged with displaying threatening, abusive or insulting written material with intent to or likely to stir up racial hatred in relation to posts made on X in January and February last year.

York Magistrates' Court heard she would not indicate a plea on the basis she has dementia.

The former Stray, Woodlands and Hookstone councillor, of Harrogate Road in Knaresborough, is due to appear at York Crown Court on 22 December.

Ms Marsh resigned from the council after members of the public reported the posts on X.

She has previously denied the comments were antisemitic but was suspended from the Liberal Democrats before she later resigned her role.
