Outstanding care staff go above and beyond - CQC

Staff at Moorville House were praised for providing individualised care

A home which looks after young adults with autism and learning disabilities has been rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Moorville House in the Crosspool area of Sheffield was upgraded from its rating of good following a routine inspection in August and September.
The care home supports up to eight people and was caring for six residents at the time of the inspection.
Alan Stephenson, CQC deputy director of operations in South Yorkshire, said inspectors found a service which provided excellent care and support and that staff "supported people to have maximum choice and control of their lives, in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests".
Inspectors concluded that staff completely understood how autistic people and people with learning disabilities could succeed and have a fulfilled life.
They found there was a high standard of individual support and care to suit people's likes, dislikes and needs.
The home had an open, inclusive and welcoming culture, where people using the service came first and their satisfaction was a priority.
Inspectors found that this supported staff to continually aspire to achieve good outcomes for people and led to high-quality care being delivered.
The home was rated as good in the Safe, Effective and Responsive categories and outstanding for Caring and Well Led.
Mr Stephenson said: "Throughout our inspection, we saw staff go above and beyond to understand people as individuals, going as far as to give up their time to take people to football matches and on other day trips."
He said the relationships forged by staff did not end once people moved on.
In one case workers supported a former resident during a challenging holiday through calls and emails.
"A relative told us that when their loved one had been hospitalised, staff not only supported that person but the relative too," he said.
A spokesman for Moorville Residential said they were "incredibly proud" of their staff, calling the rating "a true reflection of their dedication, compassion, and professionalism".
"This achievement reflects our commitment to creating a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment where every individual is treated with dignity and respect," the added.
