Seven sheep have died after a vehicle - thought to be a 4x4 - was "deliberately" driven at the animals.

The dead sheep were discovered at about 10:00 GMT Wednesday in a field on the outskirts of Staveley, near Knaresborough, North Yorkshire Police said.

The force said the car had been "deliberately driven over the perimeter fence and at the animals" overnight, killing seven and leaving the rest of the flock "distressed".

Anyone who has any information about the incident or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of a 4x4 vehicle in the area at the time is asked to contact the police.
