A man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a prison officer while already serving a sentence.

Scott Wood, 44, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates' Court to touching the woman's bottom during his five-year term for causing grievous bodily harm.

He was given an additional nine weeks in prison for the assault, and put on the sex offenders' register for five years.

Police have welcomed Tuesday's sentence, and praised the woman for coming forward.

Det Con Joanne Heyes from West Mercia Police said: "This was a distressing incident for the victim and we commend her bravery and persistence.

"We would encourage anyone who has concerns about a sexual crime, either recently or in the past, to get in touch. You will always be offered our full support."

Police have not said in which prison the assault took place.
