Murder charge over death of 'much-loved' man

A man who was charged with manslaughter over the death of Bristol man is now facing a murder charge.

Piers Hansen has been charged in connection with the death of James Bruce, 43, who died at his home address in Coronation Road, Southville, on 2 March 2023.

The 42-year-old defendant, from Brislington, has not yet submitted a plea.

He has been remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance at Bristol Crown Court.

Mr Bruce's family has been notified of the latest developments and specially trained family liaison officers continued to offer their support, police said.

In a statement, Mr Bruce's family said: "James was a much-loved member of the family.

"His family and many friends are devastated by what has happened."
