A police force has said it will not investigate the incident where a football fan fell from a stand onto spectators below while celebrating a goal.

The supporter rolled off the roof seconds after Lamar Reynolds's goal in Maidstone United's shock 2-1 FA Cup victory against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The incident in the Cobbold Stand is being investigated internally by Ipswich Town.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesperson said the incident was not a police matter.

The spokesperson added that the force worked closely with the club and the incident would be discussed at the next "safely advisory group" meeting led by Ipswich Borough Council.

Jo Peters, 51, from Butley, near Woodbridge, was in the lower tier of the stand when she says she was struck by the falling fan.

She told the BBC she felt like she was "hit by a bus". Ms Peters was not otherwise injured, but left the ground early fearing a repeat incident would happen.

It is understood the male fan who fell was not seriously injured.
