Brighton to get 120 new EV charging points in 2024

Brighton & Hove is to get 100 new lamppost charging points and 20 fast chargers for electric vehicles.
The city council said this will bring the number of charging points across the city to nearly 500, with more than 1,000 to come by 2027.
The lamppost charging stations are being installed in March, with the fast chargers due to arrive later in the spring and early summer.
The authority said much of this will be paid for with cash from central government grants.
Trevor Muten, chairman of the transport and sustainability committee, said: “The number of EVs is growing fast so we need to make sure we’re ahead of the curve.
"Many more residents, businesses and visitors are choosing to drive fully electric cars and vans as prices come down and the second-hand market expands.
“Providing thousands more EV charging points will also make a significant contribution to achieving the city’s net zero goals of moving away from burning polluting fossil fuels, providing affordable, clean energy and improving air quality."
Using nearly £3m from the government’s Local EV Infrastructure fund, Brighton & Hove City Council said it intends to install at least 1,650 new chargers by 2027.
Statistics from the DVLA have shown that almost 3,000 electric and hybrid vehicles are now registered in Brighton & Hove.
The council said it currently has 700 active requests from residents for charge points to be installed near their homes and receives about 20 more every month.
