A mother and her disabled son died in a house fire as a result of smoke inhalation, a coroner has said.

Sarita Garcia-Perez and Sancho Garcia-Bolsover both died at their home in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, in the early hours of 7 April.

Following an investigation, inquests into their deaths have been opened at Chesterfield Coroners Court.

They heard that Ms Garcia-Perez, 65, was a retired air stewardess, while her 31-year-old son did not work due to his disability.

Emergency services had already determined that the fire in Staunton Close was started accidentally.

The inquest openings heard that post-mortem examinations were carried out for Ms Garcia-Perez and her son.

The cause of death for both was given as "inhalation of the products of combustion".

The inquests were adjourned to a later date, which has not been fixed.
