Woman killed and four seriously injured in A9 crash

A woman has died and four other people are in a serious condition in hospital following a crash on the A9 in the Highlands.

The 65-year-old was a passenger in a Volkswagen Multivan which collided with a Toyota Hilux near Carrbridge at about 22:15 on Wednesday.

Two passengers in the Volkswagen, a 33-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, the driver, a 64-year-old man, and the 51-year-old male driver of the Toyota were taken to Inverness' Raigmore Hospital.

Police said their condition was described as serious.

The road around the crash site was closed for almost eight hours.

Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing and appealed for information, external.

Sgt Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this very difficult time.

“As our inquiries continue, I’d appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

"I’d be particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage of the area around the time.”
