Plans have been submitted for a new £14m NHS diagnostic centre in Coventry.

The scheme will see NHS offices in the Paybody Building on Stoney Stanton Road refurbished to house a community diagnostic centre (CDC).

The planned health centre, due to open in April 2025, will see about 90,000 patients annually, with a focus on heart and lung problems as well as diagnosing cancers.

It would also have equipment such as MRI and CT scanners, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust said last year.

NHS property services has applied for a certificate of lawful development to transform the offices, which have laid empty since November 2023, into a medical centre.

It has also applied for permission to carry out additional works, including changes to the outside of the building.

Applications for the scheme were submitted last month and are yet to be decided by Coventry City Council.

UHCW chief executive Prof Andy Hardy said last year that patients would be able to get "lifesaving checks" closer to home, without the need to attend the main acute hospital site.

This would reduce their waiting times and improve experiences and outcome, he added.
