The new £700,000 building at Fishmoor Reservoir will provide a bespoke water sports facility for Lancashire School Sailing Association

Construction of a new state-of-the-art boathouse intended for use by young people can go ahead.

The £700,000 water sports facility will be constructed at Fishmoor Reservoir, off Haslingden Road, in Blackburn, on behalf of Lancashire School Sailing Association (LSSA).

The facility has already secured a long lease on the land owned by Blackburn with Darwen Council and United Utilities.

The community boathouse, whose construction was approved at a meeting of Blackburn with Darwen Council’s planning committee, will improve and protect access to water sports in the area.

Bespoke facility

The project is supported by donations and in-kind services from the Issa brothers’ EG Group and Persimmon Homes, with kit and equipment donations from Blackburn Sports Council.

The scheme will include a parking area and secure rigging area leading to the existing slipway, and will provide for a bespoke facility for LSSA to promote water sports at the reservoir.

Existing shipping containers on the site will be removed.
