A gull has been put down after a suspected crossbow attack in south-west Scotland.

Police said the bird had been found injured at Murrayfield Gardens in Stranraer on Monday.

They said it had been shot with a "hunting bolt either from a crossbow or similar weapon".

The bird had to be euthanised after the incident and police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
