A man suffered serious injuries when he was attacked with a machete after violence involving a group erupted on a residential street.

The victim, 27, was injured after a dispute broke out in Bushberry Avenue, Coventry on Wednesday, West Midlands Police said.

He sustained knife wounds to his arms and hands, after being attacked at about 21:00 GMT, the force said.

The force said a number of assailants fled the scene before officers arrived and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

"We were called to a disorder involving a group of people in which a 27-year-old man was hit with a machete," they said in a statement.

"Officers are continuing their inquiries and we're stepping up patrols in [nearby] Canley and Tile Hill in response to what we believe is an isolated incident."
