The cost of running the Rockfield Centre in Oban has increased

Oban’s community hub is calling for volunteers to help it through a difficult financial period.

The Rockfield Centre, which opened in a former school building in 2021, is having to reduce its operating hours over the next three months.

Some members of staff have been made redundant.

As well as looking for volunteers the Oban Communities Trust is also asking for “debt forgiveness" from its investors to ease pressure on its budgets.

Interim chairman Richard Wilson said the severe financial problems were due to the rising cost of running the centre.

He said even an hour a month of volunteering, helping to open and close the building, or helping in the café would make a big difference.

The centre was set up to support community projects, help promote local culture and heritage and offers space for hire.
