A man injured in an explosion in east Cornwall has been arrested.

Police said they found a quantity of suspected explosive materials and chemicals at a property on Delaware Road, in Drakewalls.

The 46-year-old man remains in hospital after receiving life-changing injuries in the explosion on Sunday, officers said.

He has been arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosive Substances Act 1883 and remains in hospital under police guard, they added.

Some neighbouring residents to the property on Delaware Road have been advised to move out

Police have advised some residents to move out of neighbouring homes while the emergency services work on the site of the explosion.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it is still at the scene working with national specialists, firefighters and the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team to make the explosive items safe.

Det Insp Dan Mckenzie said: "As a precaution we have advised the residents of a small number of properties to leave their homes while our examinations are ongoing.

"We can be clear that this is not being treated as a terrorism incident and there is no risk to the wider public."

He thanked the local community for its "understanding" during the multi-agency response.

A 100m cordon has been placed around the property.
