A dedicated minor injuries unit in the north of the Isle of Man has been closed due to staff sickness.

Based at Ramsey Cottage Hospital, the facility usually offers a walk-in service for patients who need treatment for a wide-range of aliments, illnesses and injuries.

Manx Care said anyone who needed medical attention should go to the accident and emergency department at Noble's Hospital, or call 999 in the case of a life-threatening emergency.

The Ramsey unit is expected to reopen at 08:00 BST on Saturday.

The island's healthcare provider said the closure was due to the need for two practitioners for the "safe provision of patient care" at the northern facility, which it is unable to provide.

Manx Care said that alternatively, for support with minor ailments or illnesses, people could attend one of the island’s community pharmacies.
