Revamped library to reopen after nine-week closure

Eccleshill Library has been shut since 28 October

A district library is due to reopen on Thursday after a major refurbishment.

Eccleshill Library in Bradford closed on 28 October 2024 to allow for renovation work to take place.

Bradford Council, which runs the facility, said the adults and children's areas had both been modernised, as well as the meeting room on the first floor.

A new events space has been created on the ground floor, while a new rear entrance and new ground floor toilets are also among the site's features.

The work was financed by a combination of Arts Council funding and money from the Community Infrastructure Levy.

The news comes as Bradford's year as the UK City of Culture 2025 began on 1 January.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, the authority's executive member for healthy people and places, said the refurbishment would make the site "more welcoming" for library users.

Speaking before Christmas, she added: "We are also pleased this work has been completed in time for 2025 and the City of Culture year ahead, so the library can host more and bigger events and welcome our partners and community groups to use the new space."
