Worcester's Victorian Christmas Fayre has returned to the city.

The event, which runs from Thursday until Sunday, will feature almost 200 stalls, street entertainers, stilt walkers, a funfair and live music performances across the city.

Costumed Victorian characters, including Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, will wander the streets at various times across the four-day event.

"The fayre will bring visitors in from far and wide, providing the perfect opportunity to showcase Worcester," said city mayor Mel Allcott.

The event, which is in its 32nd year, has been known to attract more than 150,000 visitors.

The street market will be first attraction to open at 12:00 GMT on Thursday, ahead of a community carol service in Worcester Cathedral at 16:45.

The service will be followed by a procession to the Cornmarket, where the event will be declared officially open.

"I’m excited to see our Victorian-themed city with all the entertainment, the hospitality, the wares and my personal favourite, the carousel,” the mayor said.

On Saturday, a special dance performance by Dancefest will take place in The Shambles at 17:00 and visitors on Sunday will have the chance to "find Scrooge" as he meanders around the city throughout the day.
