A man has been taken to hospital following a serious assault on a canal path in Nottingham.

It took place at about 09:00 BST on Thursday near to the London Road bridge in the city centre, said Nottinghamshire Police.

A cordon remains in place, the force added.

Ch Insp Craig Berry said: "Officers are working hard to understand the circumstances of what happened and are appealing for witnesses to come forward."
