A lorry has toppled over at a recently-upgraded roundabout which has had five similar incidents since 2013.

The vehicle crashed into a sign and railings as it exited Rushington roundabout on the A326 at Totton, Hampshire, shortly before 11:00 BST.

Hampshire and New Forest councillor David Harrison witnessed the incident, which caused no injuries.

He said he was "frustrated" that another lorry had tipped over, just months after a £2.8m improvement scheme at the roundabout had been completed.

Mr Harrison posted on Facebook: "I was just approaching the roundabout from the Marchwood direction when a lorry coming in the opposite direction, carrying green waste, tipped right over, crushing the central reservation barriers.

"Other motorists assisted and the driver was helped out of the cab. I am told he is shaken but unhurt."

The councillor said it was the first time he had known a lorry to topple on the north side of the roundabout.

The badly-damaged vehicle was later removed from the scene and the road was reopened.

Similar incidents were reported at the roundabout in 2013, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

Also, in 2015 a driver was trapped inside a burning vehicle and was "very lucky" to emerge unscathed, police said at the time.

The recent upgrade, completed in August, included work "in light of incidences of overturning lorries in the area", Hampshire County Council previously said.

It added: "This includes for the resurfacing of the northern quarter of the roundabout and the provision of the northbound bus only lane on Marchwood Bypass."
