A 12-year-old boy who was found in a North Yorkshire river after going missing died by drowning, a coroner said.

Khaled Basem Al Satouf was seen going into the River Swale in Richmond on 16 August, with police called just after 17:00 BST.

North Yorkshire Police carried out extensive searches along with the fire and rescue service, and confirmed the body of a child was recovered at 22:45 BST.

An inquest into the death of Khaled, from Leeds, was opened earlier at Northallerton Coroner's Court and adjourned until a later date by Senior Coroner Jon Heath.

Bouquets of flowers were left near Richmond Falls the day after the incident and police said at the time Khaled's death was not being treated as suspicious.
