Crew member dies after accident on cruise ship

A member of crew has died on board the P&O cruise ship Arvia after an accident, the company has confirmed.

An investigation into the incident that led to the unnamed man's death on Sunday are ongoing, P&O Cruises said.

A spokesperson for the cruise firm said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends both on board and at home and we are providing every possible support to them."

The 16-deck Arvia left Southampton on Friday for a 14-night transatlantic crossing to the Caribbean and is due to arrive in Barbados on 7 November.

The ship that can have up to 5,200 guests and 1,800 crew on board is currently en route to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
