An 18-year-old man has died following a two-vehicle crash on the Black Isle.

The collision, which involved a white Ford Transit van and a black Ford Focus, happened south of the Cromarty Bridge, near Culbokie, at about 21:40 on Monday.

The man was taken to hospital where he died a short time later. A woman, 18, and a 20-year-old man were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police said a 50-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the crash and was released pending further inquiries.

Officers have not said which vehicles the people involved were travelling in.

The road was closed to allow for investigations to take place and re-opened at 06:30.

Sgt Kate Finlayson said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this extremely difficult time.

"I am appealing, external to anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicles prior to get in touch with officers."

She added: "I'd also ask that anyone with dashcam footage who were driving in the area at the time review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation."
