Deputies Neil Inder and Simon Vermeulen have proposed a smaller rise in Guernsey's minimum wage

Politicians have objected to the proposed rise of Guernsey's minimum wage and demanded it be smaller.

In July, proposals were published to increase the adult minimum wage to £12.00 from £10.65 per hour.

However, Economic Development Deputies Neil Inder and Simon Vermeulen have proposed the increase should be reduced to either £11.25 for adults and £10.15 for 16 and 17 year olds, or £11.55 and £10.40 respectively.

The proposals are due to be debated during the first week of September and, if approved, would come into force on 1 October.
