A 10-year-old child has read more than 100 books as part of a summer reading challenge.

Izabel Dyle from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire read 123 volumes as part of the "Summer Reading Challenge, external" surpassing the 83 titles she read last summer.

The programme is designed to encourage children to read a minimum of six books over the school holidays.

Izabel says she likes "imagining new things" and that reading "just makes [her] really happy."

Izabel tracks her summer reading progress by recording every book title, author, page count, and the time spent reading each one.

She also documents her achievements with weekly photos of the growing piles of tomes she has completed and keeps all her receipts from the local library.

Some of the books read by Izabel this summer include Letter to Pluto by Lou Treleaven and Super Hero School by Thierry Robberecht.

Izabel, who has a particular interest in the space genre, shows no signs of slowing down and has set her sights on reading 150 books before the Summer Reading Challenge concludes in mid-September.

She added: "Maybe next summer I'll beat this year's record!"
