Bridge to shut for two months for refurbishment

A historic footbridge in Shropshire is set to close for about two months to enable refurbishment work to take place.
Greyfriars Bridge in Shrewsbury will be closed from 2 June to 5 August, with a diversion being put in place, external during the closure.
The English Bridge is the nearest alternative crossing point over the River Severn.
Some people commenting on social media have complained about the impact the closure will have on nearby businesses and for parents walking children to school.
Others questioned the length of time needed to carry out the repairs.
Greyfriars is one of seven bridges , externalcrossing the river along its loop around Shrewsbury town centre. It was built in 1880.
