A woman is in hospital with serious injuries following a crash between a car and an HGV which closed an A-road in both directions.

The A47 Acle Straight, which runs between Acle and Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, was shut by emergency services shortly after 14:00 BST on Friday.

Police have now said the collision involved a grey Nissan Qashqai and a Volvo FH articulated lorry.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was driving the Nissan and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance was flown to the scene and the road remained closed for about 10 hours, until just after midnight.

National Highways said the road surface needed assessing for damage and spillage as traffic was diverted to local roads.
