A burglar who broke into a house, stole a mobile phone and cut himself a slice of birthday cake has been jailed.
CCTV footage caught Dillon Currie, also known as Abeeb Hussain, breaking into a property in Welland, Peterborough, on 26 July. Shortly after, he burgled a second house.
The next day, Currie, 33, of no known address, broke into another house where he stole items, including a 50in (127cm) TV and a gold-coloured copy of the Quran.
He pleaded guilty to three charges of burglary at Cambridge Crown Court on 7 November and was sentenced to two years and two months in jail.
Det Con George Corney said: "Hussain's audacity to help himself to a slice of cake during a burglary is mind-boggling.
"These offences had a significant psychological, as well as financial, impact on the victims, so I'm pleased Hussain was swiftly identified and has now been brought to justice."
CCTV footage caught him breaking into the first two properties on 26 July, according to Cambridgeshire Police.
He smashed his way through the rear patio door at Eames Gardens, Welland, where he helped himself to some cake and ate it.
Thirty minutes later, he smashed a rear patio door at Somerby Garth, Welland, where he stole steaks and other grocery items.
His DNA was found on a cigarette butt he left outside the house.
Currie's third burglary was at a house in Flore Close, Westwood.
When officers arrested him on 1 August, he was carrying the stolen copy of the Quran.
