Commuters are facing disruption after reports of a gas leak led to the installation of temporary traffic lights.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said Wales and West Utilities (WWU) had put the signals in place on the A390 in Truro on Wednesday morning while the matter was investigated.

At 18:00 BST, traffic reporting service Inrix said there was queuing traffic on Treyew Road in both directions.

WWU said it did not know how long it would take to fix the leak on a gas pipe running under the road.

Glyn Long, WWU gas service manager for Truro, said: "We are working in the Tresawls Road area of Truro to fix a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

"We do not yet know how long our work will take.

"Our engineers are working as safely and as quickly as possible to fix the leak.

"We appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents and road users while we carry out this essential work."
