A play centre has been temporarily closed months after a man who fell through a skylight was injured.

The incident happened on 23 June at Play2Day in Martlesham Heath, near Ipswich, while the man was working for a contractor carrying out roof maintenance.

Britpark Leisure Group Ltd, which owns the building, said it is working with the local authority to ensure repairs meet regulatory standards and the closure is necessary to complete the work.

In a statement, the company said the safety of children and families is its "main priority".

The statement continued: "We fully realise just how disappointing this is for those affected and offer our sincere apologies.

"We are working hard with specialist consultants and in full cooperation with the relevant authorities and look forward to welcoming our guests to enjoy our facilities once again very soon."

Customers who have made bookings at the play centre will be contacted this week.

The local authority said: "East Suffolk Council's Food and Safety team is continuing investigations, alongside partner agencies, following an incident at Play2Day in Martlesham Health in June."
