Rail services were cancelled after a train hit a car at a level crossing.

Emergency services were called at 16:19 BST on Sunday after the crash in Station Road at Bentley, between Ipswich and Manningtree.

One person was assessed at the scene but nobody was injured, a spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said.

Trains were disrupted between Colchester and Ipswich, but services have since resumed.

Other emergency services and a Network Rail response team were at the scene.

Passengers were advised to find alternative routes via Stansted Airport and Cambridge.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Thankfully, no-one was injured and officers are now working to recover the vehicle and review the full circumstances of what happened."
