If the proposed price increases were approved, they could be introduced next year

Car parking fees could increase in three towns for the first time in eight years.

Following a charging review across 17 car parks it owned, South Norfolk Council said it would vote on increasing the price in Diss, Loddon and Wymondham at a cabinet meeting on Monday, external.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service said the charges have been frozen since 2016 but could be modified to "make the tariff structure easier to understand".

Under the plans, the first hour of parking would be free, and a full day's parking would increase from £4 to £5. If the changes were voted for, it could be implemented by autumn next year.

Parking at sites in Harleston and Long Stratton would remain free, under the plans, as they were operated separately.

The changes were previously due to be considered at a meeting in January but were dropped and amended.

Council officials said introducing charges would help to discourage obstructive use of parking spaces.
