A number of household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) are set to shut while they are given a deep clean.

The six facilities in Oxfordshire will each be closed for two days in September and October.

Work will include jet washing the site and repainting the lines and safety areas.

Oxfordshire County Council has asked people to either hold onto their waste until their local site reopens or take it to a neighbouring one.

All closures have been scheduled for "quieter weekdays" to minimise disruption, according to the authority.

The closing dates are:

  • Stanford in the Vale, near Faringdon: 2 and 3 September

  • Ardley, near Bicester: 5 and 6 September

  • Drayton, near Abingdon: 9 and 10 September

  • Oakley Wood, near Wallingford: 12 and 13 September

  • Dix Pit, Stanton Harcourt: 23 and 24 September

  • Alkerton, near Banbury: 7 and 8 October

A deep clean for Redbridge HWRC in Oxford is expected to be carried out later in the year.
