Plans to cut A322 speed limit over crash concerns

Crash data revealed four fatal incidents on the bypass in the last decade

Drivers could soon face reduced speed limits on a section of an A-road in Surrey after concerns were raised over the number of fatal crashes.
Surrey County Council is proposing to drop the national speed limit on the A322 between the M3 and Lightwater to 60mph in both directions, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The changes would cover just over a mile (1.6 km) and follow a review of crash data which revealed four incidences of people losing their lives on the dual carriageway in the last 10 years.
Council officers say the figures show the roads need to be made safer and are consulting on the proposals.
Surrey Police have backed the move, according to council documents.
Smaller reductions are also planned at each end of the bypass, with 40mph zones on parts of Guildford Road through Lightwater and the first few hundred metres of the bypass itself.
People can view the full plans online or in person at Camberley Library, Lightwater Library or Surrey County Council's Hazel House offices in Guildford.
Comments and objections must be submitted by Thursday.
