An inquest into a man who was shot dead by police will be heard by a jury, a coroner has confirmed.
Marius Ciolac, 35, was pronounced dead in hospital after police deployed armed officers to a police station in Ascot Drive, Derby, on 7 October 2022, following reports of a man with a knife in the car park.
A pre-inquest review into Mr Ciolac's death was held at Derby Coroner's Court on Tuesday, with a provisional start date for the main proceedings set for 21 January.
Assistant coroner Sabyta Kaushal confirmed 23 witnesses would be heard at the inquest and said Mr Ciolac's family were "anxious to move this on" almost two years on from his death.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) previously said a stun grenade, baton round and Taser had been used by officers in an attempt to stop Mr Ciolac after reports windows had been smashed and a man had been seen with a knife.
The provisional finding of a post-mortem examination was that Mr Ciolac died from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Mr Ciolac, from Osmaston Road in Derby, ran a building and electrical company until it was dissolved in February 2022.
Ms Kaushal said the scope of the inquest had been agreed at a previous pre-inquest review on 1 July, and that a jury would be called.
The inquest is listed to run until 21 February, with Ms Kaushal confirming the evidence will include CCTV and bodycam footage.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust was removed as an interested persons from the case, as there are no concerns surrounding the medical treatment Mr Ciolac received, Ms Kaushal added.
