Permanent hub opens after bank closures

The new banking hub in Hessle will give people access to in-person financial services

A permanent banking hub has opened in Hessle giving people access to face-to-face financial services.

The hub, in the former Halifax branch in The Square, has been opened by Cash Access UK – an organisation set up to protect access to cash.

Customers will be able to carry out transactions on weekdays between 09:00 and 17:00 BST. Staff from six major banks will also be able to discuss more complicated issues on designated days.

A temporary facility, which opened inside Hessle Library and Community Centre in October, will now be closed.

Representatives from the major banks will be available on the following days:

• Monday: TSB

• Tuesday: Santander and NatWest

• Wednesday: Halifax

• Thursday: Barclays

• Friday: Lloyds

Gareth Oakley, Cash Access UK chief executive, said the hub would ensure "crucial access to cash and face-to-face banking services for residents and businesses across the community".

In total, five hubs have now opened across East Yorkshire, with facilities also in Cottingham, Hornsea, Market Weighton and Withernsea.
