A number of city centre bus services have been diverted after a gun was fired.
The Burges and Trinity Street in Coventry have been cordoned off as West Midlands Police investigate the incident which took place on Tuesday at about 00:45 BST. Buses are being diverted down Hale Street.
A white Volkswagen Golf was pursued by a black Volvo on The Burges, police said. Masked occupants from the Volvo then discharged a shotgun towards the Golf, before both cars fled the scene, the force added.
Det Insp Francesca Crossfield, from the force's major crime unit, said both streets would remain closed while enquires are made and asked: "Anyone who may have any information about the incident to get in touch."
"We'd like to hear from anyone who was travelling nearby and may have dashcam footage," she added.
Bus company National Express Coventry said customers should check their X page for the latest updates to services and to allow extra time for their journeys.
In a short statement it added: "A number of city centre bus services are on diversion this morning due to a police-led incident."
