Rows of garages in a residential area of Wolverhampton, described as "dangerous" and in a "state of disrepair", are to be demolished.

Wolverhampton Homes said the 36 units off Russell Street in Merridale contained asbestos and poor-quality concrete.

An application approved by City of Wolverhampton Council said concrete bases would be removed and the area would be re-seeded after demolition.

Nearly half of the garages are currently unused.

Specialist asbestos contractors will be brought in for the work, which is expected to start in November.
