A council has re-opened a health suite at one of its leisure centres after it was closed last year due to high running costs.

The suite, which includes a sauna and steam room, has been reopened on a trial basis at the Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre is Salisbury, starting on Monday.

Only this suite has re-opened among the council's leisure centres, with those at Chippenham and Marlborough now closed permanently.

The council is encouraging people to use the suite in Salisbury so it can judge how viable it will be in the future.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Public Health said: “We know that lots of people have missed the Five Rivers health suite facilities, so we are pleased that we are able to run this trial and re-open them."

The suite will open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 08:00 DST to 16:00 BST and on Mondays and Thursdays 12:00 DST to 20:00 BST.

The fitness area at Five Rivers has also been re-opened by Wiltshire Council after improvement work and upgraded gym equipment was installed.

Users had been in a temporary gym in the sports hall during the three-week closure.
