A train operator has warned of delays and cancellations to services due to a "shortage of train crew".

Thameslink said services on multiple routes would be disrupted until the end of service on Saturday.

The firm advised customers to check if their journey would be affected, with alternative routes available at no extra cost.

Passengers who need to travel were advised to leave an extra 30 minutes to complete their journeys.

The routes particularly affected are:

  • Brighton/Three Bridges to Bedford/Cambridge (via London St Pancras)

  • Horsham/London Kings Cross to Peterborough

  • Moorgate to Welwyn Garden City

Ticket acceptance has been arranged by Thameslink, including on London Underground and London Buses via any reasonable route, Southern and East Midlands Trains and on Metrobus.

The firm said customers may be entitled to compensation if they experience a delay in completing their journey.

Passengers were also told to check ahead due to engineering works, affecting services over the weekend.

No Gatwick Express services would be running on Saturday or Sunday and buses were also replacing trains between Brighton and Lewes on both days.

On Sunday, buses would also replace trains on the Southern route between Oxted and Crowborough/Uckfield.
