A man has been charged with attempted murder, after an attack at a railway station left a woman seriously injured.

Deng Chol Majek, aged 18, was charged following the incident at Bescot Stadium station, near Walsall, on Sunday night.

The police said they were called to the station just after 23:25 BST and found a woman who had injuries "consistent with being stabbed". She was still in hospital with life-threatening injuries on Tuesday morning.

Mr Chol Majek is due to appear at Walsall Magistrates' Court later.

The station has reopened but people in the area will continue to see an increased police presence in the coming days as the investigation progresses, West Midlands Police said.

Inquiries at the station and surrounding areas, including a nearby hotel, have been carried out.

West Midlands Police are assisting the transport police with their inquiries.
