A Surrey teenager who stole two cars from their driveways has been sentenced.

Stanley Newell, 18, of Burnhams Grove, Epsom, was arrested following a police pursuit on 3 July, after he had broken into a home in Ewell and stolen keys to a Ford Focus.

Following the arrest, investigating officers were able to connect him with a separate car theft in Epsom the previous week.

Newell was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court to a total of 25 months, and he will be detained for 16 months in a young offenders' institution before serving the remainder of his term in a prison.

He had pleaded guilty to two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of burglary and the use of a motor vehicle without third-party insurance.

Newell was also disqualified from driving for 30 months.
