Oban has been recommended to host the Royal National Mòd in 2028.

The week-long annual Gaelic cultural and musical festival, which attracts thousands of competitors, was last held in the Argyll town last year.

It has been estimated to have generated about £3.6m for the local economy.

An offer to host the Mòd in Argyll and Bute in 2028 was approved in principle by the local authority earlier this year and it is now being advised to select Oban as the preferred venue.

A report to go before councillors , externalrecommends Oban be selected rather than Dunoon as the most appropriate location to host the Mòd, and the policy and resources committee is being asked to agree to stage it there.

The report said Oban would ensure the highest number of visitors, better access from the islands and the greatest economic impact.

The town also benefits from an experienced organising committee having last hosted the event in 2024.

Lochaber hosted this year's Mòd which will be held in Glasgow next year with the 2027 event in the Western Isles.
