Man charged over city centre park rape

A man has been charged with rape after a woman was attacked in a city centre park.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was raped in Southampton's East Park on Thursday in the early hours.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the woman did not know her attacker.

Police said the 22-year-old, of no fixed abode, was due to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Part of the park in the city centre was cordoned off from about 05:00 BST on Thursday
