The Labour Party has selected its parliamentary candidate for Dudley.

Sonia Kumar, an NHS physiotherapist, was announced as the constituency's Labour candidate on Wednesday night.

The newly formed constituency, comprising areas of the former Dudley North and Dudley South constituencies, is one of 57 seats in the West Midlands.

Ms Kumar is so far known to be running against Conservative candidate Marco Longhi, Ian Martyn Flynn for the Liberal Democrats, Zia Qari for the Green Party, Adam Southall for Reform UK, and Aftab Hussain for the Workers Party of Britain.

A full list of candidates will be published on the BBC News website after nominations close.

Ms Kumar said it was the "honour of her life".

Mr Longhi has been the MP for the former constituency of Dudley North since 2019.
