Developers have got the go-ahead to build up to 330 homes after an appeal was successful.

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) councillors denied permission to build at Spencer's Farm, north of Lutman Lane, in Maidenhead last July.

The outline plans include allocating land for a new primary school.

But planning inspector Thomas Hatfield granted IM Land 1 Limited and Summerleaze Limited permission on 23 May, external.

Mr Hatfield said it was “clearly necessary” to build affordable homes on the site to meet the town’s needs and to comply with RBWM Council’s Local Plan.

The plan was formally adopted by the council in February 2022 and allocates Spencer's Farm for housing.

Some opponents of the scheme argued vacant homes in Maidenhead could be reused and render the new development unnecessary.

But Mr Hatfield said there was “no evidence” to suggest that could be a “genuine source of additional supply” of homes.
