A family have paid tribute to a "loving and dedicated" mother and her son who died at their home in a small village.

Maria Nugara, 54, and her son Giuseppe Morreale, 29, were pronounced dead at the property in Cambridge Road in Ugley, Essex, on 28 May.

Calogero Ricotta, 63, who is Ms Nugara's husband, has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of causing actual bodily harm.

In a joint statement, Mr Morreale's siblings said "life will never be the same again".

“Our mum Maria was loving and dedicated to her four children and grandson," they said.

“No matter what, she always had a smile and a positive outlook on life.

“Her infectious energy and her vibrant personality was always a joy to be around.

“Joe always had a cheeky smile and a loving heart. He loved his family and was always there for them.

“He had a very close bond with mum and always looked out for her.

“Life will never be the same again. It’s not fair that they have been taken away from us."

Mr Ricotta appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday and is due to appear at the same court again on 16 August.
